Excuse Me, What’s That Shade?

Posted in All About Lips, Great Products by FaceDoctorette - Jan 4, 2010

BuxomRaspberry Bite, Raisin Rage, Mulled Wine, Private Red, Russian Red…the list goes on and on. Finding that perfect shade of red is always a challenge and once you do find that rouge parfait, the next challenge is to get it to stay on your lips and off of your teeth!

I recently found my rouge parfait and it goes by the name of Barcelona.  The lip stick/liner/lip plumper (your ultimate all-in-one stick) is part of Bare Escentuals’ Buxom line and it not only lasts but it conditions your lips as well.  The Buxom line is formulated to naturally create the look of fuller, more voluptuous lips.  The Buxom Big & Healthy Lip Stick defines the shape of lips like a liner, fills them in with creamy velvet color, and then plumps them to their full buxom potential.

I personally like to add a little shine to my lips so I ALWAYS add a Smashbox gloss on top of any color I am wearing.  The Buxom Big & Healthy Lip Stick is only available at Sephora and comes in a variety of colors.  I love Barcelona but next up on my list to try is Brooklyn!

What is your favorite shade of red? Have you tried anything else from the Buxom line?

Hot Holiday Colors

Posted in All About Eyes, All About Lips, Great Products by FaceDoctorette - Nov 16, 2009

Park Avenue Christmas TreeWith the holiday season on our heels, we will be needing to vamp up our everyday look for all of the hot holiday parties.  I must admit, I am not one for venturing out into bizarre makeup techniques, but I will occasionally do a smoky eye or slap on some blue or purple eye liner just for fun.  My dad’s esthetician, Stefany, sent me a couple of new things they just got in at the English Surgi-Spa from Colorlab Cosmetics, and I love the new colors.

First up is the “Park Avenue” eye shadow, which is cleverly named after the Manhattan street that puts Christmas trees in the median every holiday season.  The shadow is a beautiful forest green with gold metallic flecks and an indigo undertone.  It would look great applied to the outer eye crease and under the lower lashes (Which is what I am told, because I am definitely not the make-up expert!)

Second is the “Hot Topic” lip gloss.  It is a rich scarlet red that goes on sheer and glossy, so it looks great alone, or on top of a deep red lipstick if you want to go for the vintage glam look.  Either way, your lips will be the hot topic at any party you go to. ;-) My favorite thing about this gloss is that you can get it with any scent you want (Although I would personally go with peppermint for this one), and you can choose to add shimmer to it or leave it the way it is.

I will be on the prowl for more hot holiday colors as I thumb through all the December issues, but for now, these are two colors that I will definitely be using to vamp up my holiday party look!

Neosporin Lip Health

Posted in All About Lips, Beauty Tips by FaceDoctorette - Oct 9, 2009

Neosporin

I have always been a complete sucker when it comes to beauty products. Even as a little girl, I took collecting Lip Smackers VERY seriously.  The other day while in the gym, I saw a commercial for Neosporin Lip Health overnight renewal therapy.  Naturally, I walked to Walgreens that afternoon and picked up a jar.  I feel that most lip balms and creams often tend to dry out my lips rather than moisturize them, so I am always trying to find new products to keep my lips healthy.  Especially with winter just around the corner!

On Neosporin’s site, they explain the difference between unhealthy lips and healthy lips.  Basically, if your lip surface maintains intercellular hydration then the intercellular matrix supports lips tissue, which causes the protective lip barrier to retain lip moisture and keep irritants out, resulting in healthy lips with a smooth and supple appearance.

The overnight renewal therapy is supposed to restore visibly healthy lips in 3 days, and I must say that this claim is valid. I have applied the cream right before going to bed for the past 3 nights and my lips feel better already.  Another plus is that I don’t feel the need to reapply constantly like I do with some lip balms.

It definitely does not have the same yummy flavors that lip smackers offers, but with cold weather on the horizon, I would definitely recommend this product.  The overnight renewal therapy runs for about $4.99 in stores, but you can fill out a short form on neolips.com to get a $3.00 coupon, which makes this creme a must try!
