I had not even thought about it that way, but you are so right! I used to drink chamomille tea at night as part of my ritual as well but I have quit doing that. I am not sure why, but I may start doing it again with the cold months on the way. It is very soothing and makes me feel cozy and safe for some reason (I know, I sound crazy).

It's so important to have rituals for kids like you said. I remember when I was younger my routine would consist of Ramona the Pest and books and me begging my mom to take out my bow!

I think adults have the same needs as kids on this one: a bedtime ritual works wonders. Having that routine you do each night before bed to get your body ready for sleep is a great idea. For my nieces it's a book and a bottle :)

Thanks Rachel! I will have to ask Peggy about this psychologist you speak of. I was thinking it may not be great to take every night but when researching melatonin for this post, it is supposedly good for your immune system because of the antioxidants. I don't know. I will have to try your theory tonight, but if I am still awake at midnight I am going to have to take my pill ;-)

Me too. I sleep with a simple silk one every night, but the Breakfast at Tiffany's mask is most definitely on my Christmas list!

When I lived in the Virgin Islands, I used Melatonin EVERY night to fall asleep. But, I don't remember having crazy dreams every time I used it. However, when I tried NOT to use it, I was convinced I couldn't fall asleep.... after I got home from the VIs, I decided no more melatonin! I may use it once every few months, but now I can fall asleep without anything.

In one of my psychology classes, we talked about people that would have trouble falling asleep. One of the famous psychologists (I forget his name but will look it up) told his client do things to make him stay awake, and before he knew it, the client was falling asleep on a regular schedule, because instead of thinking about falling asleep, he tried to stay awake (like cleaning, laundry, something!). Everyone needs to sleep and will fall asleep by themselves, they just need a little convincing.. try it Chev! Do something in your apartment to STAY awake, and before you know it your bed will be calling your name!!!!!!!!!! :)

I am loving your posts!
